NFL 2008 Mock Draft – St. Louis Rams
With the number two pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams are in a unique position. While their team likely isn’t good enough to win a Super Bowl, the team also isn’t as bad as their record last year indicates. The Rams ended up with the second worst record in the NFL mostly due to injuries.
Offensively, the Rams have a lot of good pieces. At quarterback, running back and wide receiver, the Rams have enough talent. Last year their offensive line was demolished by injuries and became the weakest part of the team.
Defensively, the Rams aren’t nearly as talented. While there are a few talented players on that side of the field, the Rams need help in every aspect. However, the place where they need perhaps the most work defensively is on their defensive line.
With the offensive line and the defensive line being the biggest needs, that brings two Longs into focus – Chris Long and Jake Long. Chris Long is Howie Long’s son and has the tools to be a dominant defensive end. Jake Long isn’t related to Howie Long, but he’s a giant offensive lineman with huge hands and long arms.
If the Rams can add one of the Longs in the NFL Draft and avoid injuries in 2008, there’s no reason why St. Louis can’t compete for a playoff spot.
Chris Long
Jake Long

If Chris Long is taken #1, I think the Rams should take Vernon Gholston. They can always pick up an offensive lineman in the 2nd round.
