Mario Manningham - 2008 NFL Draft Prospect

by Kori Ellis on March 21st, 2008

Mario Manningham Stats
In 2007, few wide receivers in the country could put up stats that matched what Mario Manningham did for Michigan. Manningham had 72 catches, 1174 yards and 12 touchdowns. He had at least one touchdown in seven of Michigan’s final eight games. After his huge junior season, Manningham decided to enter the 2008 NFL draft.

Mario Manningham Analysis
After three solid seasons in college, Manningham is a player every NFL team has scouted heavily. The bad news for Manningham is he didn’t test out to be as athletic as expected during the scouting combine. That could hurt his draft stock but most scouts still believe that Manningham will be drafted in the late first round or at some point in the second round.

Mario Manningham Fantasy Projections
Since Manningham isn’t a big wide receiver, he’ll likely need some time acclimating to the NFL game. He’s a good long range prospect but his 2008 production will be determined largely on which team he is drafted by. If he goes to a high powered team, there’s a chance for production in 2008. If he doesn’t, he’s likely a player to skip on draft day.

I got nervous when I saw the word “Manning” but immediately calmed down when it was preceded by a “Mario” (rather than “Eli” or “Peyton”) and followed by a “ham” (which, when you think about it, actually doesn’t rule out Peyton).
