DeShaun Foster to San Francisco 49ers
With DeShaun Foster headed to the San Francisco 49ers, what impact does that have on his status in fantasy football? Overall, this is a big blow for Foster. He went for mostly starting for the Carolina Panthers to the backup for Frank Gore in San Francisco. Foster should get some time in 2008 but not enough to be relevant in fantasy football. He should be drafted only by the Gore owners as a handcuff.
Regarding Gore, this news doesn’t mean too much. Foster is a solid backup running back but Gore is the better player. Gore should have plenty of carries in 2008 and should be able to have a bounce back season.
In Carolina, DeAngelo Williams is now in line to be the starter. This is great news for Williams’ stock in fantasy football. With Foster out of the way, Williams should see plenty of action. While the Panthers will bring in a back to pair with Williams, it is expected that Williams will be the starter and get most of the carries. If that appears to be the case come fantasy football draft time, Williams will likely be a third or fourth rounder.
Good Riddance Deshaun Foster …
