The Fantasy Kickoff - Fantasy Football Tips

Déjà Donovan

Stop me if you’ve heard this before…this is the year Donovan McNabb is going to come in and lead both the Philadelphia Eagles AND your fantasy football team to a championship. The preseason is filled with memories of a younger McNabb that could do things on the football field that we haven’t seen in a long, long time. We picture him dropping back and throwing effortless rockets all over the field and scoring touchdowns with the greatest of ease. This is going to be his year, I can feel it.

The first half of the year we see flashes of brilliance that makes us fall in love with Donovan even more. Games where he lights the opposing defense with 300+ passing yards and multiple touchdowns while proving that you were no dummy when you selected him as your starting QB. You KNOW this is going to be his year. Well … you thought it was going to be his year.
Unfortunately, just when you think you have no worries, McNabb goes down with an injury, the backup QB comes in and looks good, and McNabb’s job security is quickly in question.

Last season the Eagles were an underachieving group led by the roller-coaster signal calling McNabb. Once he went down with a torn ACL, Jeff Garcia stepped right in and led Philadelphia to a 5-1 record down the stretch and an NFC East championship. Rumblings around the sports talk world start almost immediately.

“McNabb’s washed up”; “Trade Donovan now, Garcia’s our man”, etc. Eagles’ management, however, decided that Donovan would remain the team’s franchise QB and they allowed Garcia to leave in free agency.

This season has pretty much mirrored last season. McNabb has shown glimpses of the skill level that everyone remembers him having, but also some of the wear and tear that drives Eagles fans crazy! After a disappointing start to the season Donovan goes down to injury and the backup, this time A.J. Feely, steps in and nearly leads the Eagles to a victory over the
undefeated New England Patriots while throwing for 345 yards and 3 TDs.

McNabb’s injury is not as serious as it was last year, but the rumblings have already begun. Is it time for McNabb to take a back seat and allow Coach Reid to turn the passing game over to a more “prototypical” pocket-passing QB? There are rumors already surfacing that McNabb would not mind being traded to his hometown Chicago Bears. Maybe that would be best for everyone … including all Fantasy owners that are tired of the guessing game that goes on in Philly these days!
