Chris Johnson 2008 Fantasy Projections - Tennessee Titans

by Kori Ellis on May 5th, 2008

Many draft experts were surprised that the Tennessee Titans drafted Chris Johnson with their first round draft pick. Johnson, drafted with the 24th pick in the first round, is a dynamic talent but most league pundits thought that the Titans would go with a wide receiver to help out Vince Young.

The Titans instead decided to add the fastest player in the draft. Johnson has amazing speed – in fact he may enter the 2008 season as the fastest player in the NFL. To take advantage of that speed, expect the Titans to find many different ways to get him the ball. Not only will they hand it to him a number of times, they will also try to get it to him in the passing game.

While LenDale White will likely remain as the starter at running back, Johnson is the favorite to become the backup. And since White has had a history of injury trouble, Johnson’s value is a bit higher than other backup rookie running backs. It’s not too hard to imagine Johnson getting a few starts in the 2008 season.

In fantasy football drafts, Johnson is a solid pick starting at around the eighth round. The Titans will give him the ball and he even has an outside shot of beating out White. Speed is one thing that can help rookies impact the game right away – and Johnson has speed to burn.

If you pick White in your fantasy football draft, be sure to handcuff Johnson to White. The Titans coaches seem impressed by Johnson and will get him as involved as possible.

I think that chris is an execellent addition to the titans .sure he may be a bit undersized and may not seem or look like a every down back (for right now) but all you have to do is look at maurice jones drew (jacksonville jaguars) he did an awsome job and it was simply marvelous . Chris has the chance to get bigger while drew doesnt and chris will continue to be the fastest man in the nfl .he has that frame to do just that so eventually and i mean eventually soon he will become an every down back so if i were yal id pay more attention to the running situation in tennessee because lendale hasnt exactly been the brightest guy with all the decisions he’s made recently and over the offseason and if his work ethic starts to become a big question mark and a big concern again lendale could be up for a big move and tennessee could be in for a big change because i do believe that chris johnson has the chance and the biggest and better shot to send lendale packing and leaving him out of the drivers seat. I like what chris johnson brings to the titans squad and i deffinitly think that he will be better than that bush kid and he will be a much more shiftier brian westbrook so keep all eyes on chris because hes one big nominee for my rookie of the year and i have many but chris is one of the biggest. I love my fantasy chances and i know by drafting chris you will too. Chris johnson rocks and he is the new ultimate weapon x . He will change the nfl year in and year out . Yal did a darn good job titans!!!

Chris had an amazing run against the Rams so he won’t be such a secret among casual fantasy players or football fans. Expect him to get into the return game, may make taking the Titans D/Special Teams a solid pick up.
