2008 NFL Draft – Running Back Sleepers
1. Matthew Forte, Tulane (6-1 1/8, 221)
Forte is a strong back who could become a touchdown vulture in the NFL as early as next year. He won’t be picked before the early third round of the NFL Draft, however he could come in and be a goal line back right away.
2. Chris Johnson, East Carolina (5-10 1/2, 195)
Johnson has speed to burn. He’s pretty small and will need to add strength to succeed in the NFL. However, with NFL teams coveting speed at running back more than ever, Johnson could go relatively early in the NFL Draft.
3. Chauncey Washington, USC (5-11 1/2, 215)
Washington is a running back who can do it all. He’s a good runner, a good pass catcher and is already showing signs of being able to block. His ceiling isn’t that high but he could be a solid back at the next level.
4. Tashard Choice, Georgia Tech (5-10 5/8, 210)
Choice is a guy who looks like he was born to play running back. The natural skill is apparent. That said, he still has a ways to go to putting it all together. Choice is going to be a boom or bust type draft pick.
5. Justin Forsett, California (5-7 3/4, 190)
With players like Maurice Jones-Drew and Ahmad Bradshaw having success on the NFL level, an NFL team is going to take a chance on Forsett and hope to land a similar type player. He’s tiny but he’s also quick and could be a nice change of pace back.
